AOC Stunned by Well Wishes From Trump Supporter and Son

The utter lack of civility that has permeated our political landscape could very well lead to the downfall of American society.

Sure, that sounds wildly alarming, but we cannot ignore the possibility that our inability to have political discussions without becoming emotionally unhinged is a harbinger of unrest.  We have divided ourselves down phony political lines, giving power to the false dichotomy of left versus right.

We have become so accustomed to that nonsense that even politicians find themselves flabbergasted when their opponents’ constituents show even the slightest kindness toward them.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., said a man left a sign outside her office on Friday that expressed support for both her and President Trump, a concept she said left her feeling “pretty astonished.”

The freshman lawmaker detailed the experience on Twitter, explaining that upon leaving work for the day, she discovered a man and a person she presumed to be his teenage son putting up a handmade sign outside her office.

It read: “Trump supporters for Ocasio-Cortez.”

AOC was so taken aback that she found herself confronting the father and son who were responsible.

“I somehow got it out: ‘With all respect sir, how do you… manage to support both of us at the same time?’” Ocasio-Cortez said she asked. “This is what he said: ‘I’ve been saying for years that climate change is our most important crisis. You’re one of the only ones who‘s been willing to be decisive on it.’”

Ocasio-Cortez posted the well wishes and her story of the meeting to Twitter.

And while agreeing with AOC on all issues has proven to be impossible for most, the freshman congresswoman used the opportunity to espouse one political concept that is shared across parties:  Vote your values.
