The Democrats have known for a while that they were in trouble with Joe Biden as their guy.
First, the perpetually-bumbling, semantically-stumbling former veep is going to have to be able to perform on a debate stage against a tour de force Trump on several occasions, and try to refrain from calling him a “lying, dog-faced pony soldier” or recalling whatever that asinine “corn pop” story was all about.
Biden has even suggested that he’d relish the opportunity to compare cognitive skills with Trump, in a moment that has many of the President’s supporters buckled over in laughter.
But that’s not the only trouble with Biden, at least in the eyes of the youthful left. You see, Biden is a centrist through-and-through, which has pushed away the massive glut of Bernie Sanders supporters who make up a large chunk of the Democratic voting bloc.
It appears as though Biden’s team is looking to shift hard to the left to make up for this.
Former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) released the policy recommendations of their “unity task force” on Wednesday.
The proposed platform marks Biden’s continued shift to the left, as the so-called “moderate” candidate — a label he has rejected — continues to be steered toward more radical positions to appeal to the party’s base, offering “revolutionary institutional changes.”
Among the pledges on the platform is a commitment to rejoin the Paris Climate Accord on “day one”, converting all American school buses to zero emissions in the near future, and repealing “right to work laws”.
