Carl Bernstein Names 21 GOP Senators Who Despise Trump Behind Closed Doors
This tactical escalation could prompt some petty and powerful blowback.
American politics have always been a little bit dirty, that’s undeniable, but the sheer ferocity with which the two sides are battling in these late stages of 2020 is astonishing.
This has been especially true now that the election itself has ended, and President Trump’s legal challenges to the contest have kicked into full gear. The Democrats are simply furious with the idea that Trump is attempting to litigate his way back into the White House, while the MAGA movement continues to bemoan what they feel was a “stolen” election.
The animosity has been unbelievable, and it has forced operatives on both sides of the argument to act drastically.

Take Carl Bernstein, for example, who decided it was time to tattle on a bunch of GOP Senators who had privately expressed the issues that they have with President Trump.

Bernstein accused the senators – including the likes of Mitt Romney, Marco Rubio, Chuck Grassley and Susan Collins – of a ‘craven silence’ that has ‘enabled Trump’s most grievous conduct’.
That includes ‘undermining and discrediting the US electoral system’ Bernstein said, taking aim at Trump’s refusal to concede to Joe Biden while claiming ‘massive fraud’ – a claim that his legal team has failed to substantiate in court.
The language of Bernstein’s tweet left little to the imagination.
Bernstein’s tweet, which garnered 37,600 likes, read: ‘I’m not violating any pledge of journalistic confidentially in reporting this: 21 Republican Sens–in convos w/ colleagues, staff members, lobbyists, W. House aides–have repeatedly expressed extreme contempt for Trump and his fitness to be POTUS. (1/3)’
He continued: ‘The 21 GOP Senators who have privately expressed their disdain for Trump are: Portman, Alexander, Sasse, Blunt, Collins, Murkowski, Cornyn, Thune, Romney, Braun, Young, Tim Scott, Rick Scott, Rubio, Grassley, Burr, Toomey, McSally, Moran, Roberts, Shelby.
‘With few exceptions, their craven public silence has helped enable Trump’s most grievous conduct—including undermining and discrediting the US the electoral system.’
One can only imagine that this sort of escalation in the tactics of this political war could bring dire consequences in the days to come, as retaliation will almost certainly be on the mind of those outed by Bernstein.
