Chicago Mayor can’t handle Cruz’s heated tweet, issues ugly public rebuke

Lori Lightfoot has a long way to go with her logic here.

As the arguments regarding gun control continue to invade our daily headlines, certain repetitive themes are bubbling to the surface.

For instance, there is the democratically-held, but flawed, belief that new gun laws will somehow deter criminals from possessing and using firearms.  Of course this is a logical fallacy, as criminals are not often concerned with the law.

Nowhere else in the nation is this more prevalent than in Chicago – a city whose stringent handgun ban ushered in a new wave of gun violence the likes of which The Windy City has never seen.  (And that’s saying something considering the gang activity in Chi-town during prohibition).  Modern day drug gangs in the city found themselves emboldened by the fact that their victims, the law-abiding citizens of Chicago, would likely be unarmed and vulnerable.

This fact has made Chicago an oft-cited example of how gun control can backfire.

Newly-minted Mayor Lori Lightfoot is sick and tired of it, and Senator Ted Cruz drew her ire this week.

Cruz tweeted this about Chicago’s gun issue:

Lightfoot barked back almost immediately.

Of course, Lightfoot made no reference to the culture of violence in Chicago that led to the import of these weapons.  Without the unarmed populace, just waiting to be extorted by the city’s criminal element, these weapons would not have made the inroads that they had.

The Chicago handgun ban may very well be to blame for Lightfoot’s “outside” gun numbers as well.

You see, when the fish in the barrel are unarmed, any gun will do.
