As with any election of this magnitude, the month of October brings with it a special connotation: The almost inevitable introduction of an October surprise.
These are often monumental disclosures or events that seek to alter the course of an election in a matter of just weeks, either by catapulting a single issue to the top of the national priority list, or by burying a candidate under allegations or revelations unbecoming of any high statesman.
One of our first October Surprises comes to us from the latter, as new CIA evidence indicates that Hillary Clinton was actively trying to portray Donald Trump as a Russian agent back in 2016, and that then-President Barack Obama was well aware of the scheme.
Ratcliffe declassified two items — two pages of Brennan’s handwritten notes — taken after he briefed Obama on intelligence the CIA received, according to Fox News; and a CIA memo that showed that the CIA referred the matter to the FBI for potential further investigation.
Most of Brennan’s handwritten notes are redacted. However, the unredacted portions say: “We’re [gaining] additional insight into Russian activities from [REDACTED].”
“Cite alleged approval by Hillary Clinton [on 26 July] of a proposal from one of her foreign policy advisers to villify [sic] Donald Trump by stirring up a scandal claiming interference by the Russian security services,” he wrote.
Republican were quick to pounce on the news as well:
Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA) tweeted: “BREAKING: Brennan’s handwritten notes prove he briefed Obama on Hillary Clinton’s “approved” plan to “vilify Donald Trump by stirring up” the Russian collusion hoax. Yes, there was coup to take down @realDonaldTrump. And it was even worse than we thought!”
Given that Joe Biden was the Vice President under Barack Obama, there is little doubt that this revelation will come into play heavily as we enter the final stretch of the 2020 election.
