CNN Guests Ups the Ante for Anti-Trump Candidate with ‘Shoot My Dog’ Comment

This has to be one of the more bizarre lines delivered with a straight face on CNN this week…and that’s saying something.

The mainstream media is hysterical.  Not funny hysterical, mind you.  We mean more like “chicken with its head cut off” hysterical.

Of course, a great deal of this is by design.  Their rage translates to your own rage, and if they can get you riled up they can make some serious cash on advertising.  As ratings go up, so does the price for that 30-second spot on Maddow, or the 15’er in the first break of Anderson Cooper’s primetime real estate.

The cheapest and easiest way to gain viewers is to inject some unnecessary drama into the proceedings.  Suddenly, as the faces on the television grow ever-more irritated, so do we.  Then, once we’re hooked, it’s just a verbal boxing match where we think we have a dog in the fight.

It’s emotional trickery, and it works far too often.

Now, however, as the world at large rages, these talking heads have to take it up a notch to be seen.

Enter Paul Begala.

In speaking with Chris Cuomo last night on his CNN program, the longtime political analyst said the following:

“I’m a JFK Democrat. I will pay any price, bear any burden, support any friend, oppose any foe to ensure the defeat of Donald J. Trump,” Begala stated. “You could be for Medicare for all, or not. You can shoot my dog, and if I think you can beat Trump I’m going to be for you.”

Of course, this sounds an awful lot like Donald Trump’s “shoot a man on 5th Avenue” line, which we have no doubt that Begala is familiar with.
