Dem Strategist Makes Insensitive Suicide ‘Joke’ During Election Night Coverage
Not funny.
When you make a living by talking about politics on television, there is no limit to the amount of hyperbole and bluster that you can conjure when those cameras are turned on you, and election night 2020 sure brought out the biggest and most bombastic statements imaginable.
This was an election that most experts predicted would go on for several days, or perhaps even weeks if things took a turn toward the vague.
But not James Carville, long-time Democratic strategist and talking head. Carville twice predicted that the counting would be complete by election night, once stating Joe Biden would be celebrating by midnight, and then revising that estimate to 10pm later on.
Spoiler alert: That didn’t happen.
These may not have been Carville’s most controversial statements of the election however, after the longtime TV politico made a fairly insensitive “joke” about suicide.
“The first thing is every Democrat, just put the razor blades and the Ambien back in the medicine cabinet. We’re going to be fine. We’re going to be fine,” Carville reassured Democrats.
Carville called Michigan a “red mirage,” said Pennsylvania “looks really good,” and called Georgia a “big surprise” for Democrats.
Carville’s comments came around midnight, during an appearance on MSNBC.
As of 4pm on Wednesday, there has still been no clear winner announced.
