Democrats Exert Heavy Pressure on GOP Over Marjorie Taylor Greene

This ultimatum has already gotten some attention on The Hill.

As Congress continues to push forward on a number of legislative fronts from impeachment to stimulus, Democrats have begun to turn their focus toward a very personal grievance:  Expelling GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia.

Greene has become a lightning rod for controversy of late, thanks in no small part to her unwillingness to shy away from controversy, and a long history of making astounding claims on social media – some of which are just now coming to light.

There are a number of Democrats who are now calling for her expulsion, and they’e been ramping up these efforts day by day.

Top House Democrats are moving to force Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene off multiple committees this week — with or without Kevin McCarthy’s help.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer has delivered an ultimatum to McCarthy: Either Republicans move on their own to strip Greene (R-Ga.) of her committee assignments within 72 hours, or Democrats will bring the issue to the House floor.

The Democrats’ move comes amid intense fury within the Democratic Caucus over Greene’s long record of incendiary rhetoric, including peddling conspiracy theories that the nation’s deadliest mass shootings were staged. Greene also endorsed violence against Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other top Democrats before she was elected to Congress.

Just days ago Greene made headlines after a video surfaced of her interaction with one of the survivors of the Stoneman Marjorie Douglas school shooting, and after a past Facebook comment about the origins of the California wildfires went viral.
