Donald Trump’s First Amendment Executive Order Has Colleges Cowering

In America, there are few things more powerful and more poignant than our right to Free Speech.

It is the very cornerstone of American society, and the right by which we derive all others.

Let me put it this way:  Without an understanding of just how important free speech is, we’d all be British.

Nowhere in America has free speech been more attacked than on the nation’s college campuses such as UC Berkeley, whose liberal students literally rioted because they didn’t want a gay, conservative author to speak at a campus-endorsed event.  Whether or not this sentiment has bloomed from the “safe space” movement, or the divisive rhetoric of the mainstream media is a bit of a chicken-and-the-egg-like paradox, and would be worthy of a lengthy discussion.

What we can do today, however, is attempt to coerce academia into a freer arena of thought, where diversity of opinion can flourish.  You see, it is this friction that provides the most profound educational experience…not life in a bubble of “trigger warnings”.

President Donald Trump is hoping to exacerbate the change with a weapon he knows all too well:  Money.

Turning Point USA founder and Executive Director Charlie Kirk told Breitbart News that “the cartel of the colleges” is not happy about President Donald Trump’s recent executive order regarding free speech on college campuses, as the “intellectual tyrants” of academia “believe there’s no consequences for them, whatsoever.” Kirk offered his remarks in a Friday interview on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily with host Alex Marlow.

Kirk spoke to Marlow about President Donald Trump’s recent executive order calling to hold universities accountable for respecting free speech on college campuses, an order that Kirk says is an important matter for him personally, as he has championed for the president to make this move, which has been “the primary mission” of Turning Point USA.

When confronted with the notion that this is essentially a government “takeover” of schools, Kirk emphatically rebuked.

“We’re talking about less funding potentially going to colleges,” said Kirk, “That would be a potential government withdrawal — essentially, it’s putting forth standards.”

“These universities are so brazen,” added Kirk, “They believe there are no consequences for them, whatsoever. They are intellectual tyrants that live in their ivory towers.”

Recent events, such as the aforementioned Berkeley riots of 2017, are just one indicator that half of our nation is secretly courting cultural fascism as a way to subdue the rest of us.

This is, of course, the opposite of freedom, and must be recognized as such and properly dealt with.

Whether or not Trump’s executive order will be the solution or merely the stimulus has yet to be seen.
