GOP Senator Looks to ‘Step In’ if Biden Doesn’t Get Intel Briefings

The mood is tense on Capitol Hill this week.

Thing are quite tumultuous in our nation’s capital at the moment, as President Donald Trump continues his efforts to prove that he won the 2020 election, despite the Associated Press having declared Joe Biden the winner ahead of the certification of results set to occur over the next several weeks.

Trump’s victory claims have stagnated the normal chain of events after an election, with Biden’s transition team unable to access funds and information that is usually available to incoming Presidents – a reality that some have suggested could be a detriment to national security should it continue much longer.

Now, one GOP Senator is stepping away from the obstruction and demanding that certain aspects of the transition process begin immediately…or else.

Senator James Lankford (R-OK) threatened to “step in” if Joe Biden was not given access to U.S. intelligence briefings by Friday during an interview with Tulsa, OK radio KRMG host Russell Mills on Wednesday.

Mills said, “I gotta tell you, national security is a concern. Because Mr. Biden is not getting the briefings that he would normally be getting at this stage of the process.”

He explained, “GSA has to certify that election to start turning it around. The first day they can do that on the calendar is Friday. And when that occurs, they should actually step in and, I will tell you, I’m on the committee of oversight, I’ve already started engaging in this area.”

And then came the threats.

“There is no loss from him getting the briefings to be able to do that, and if that’s not occurring by Friday, I will step in as well and to be able to push to say ‘This needs to occur,’ so that, regardless of the outcome of the election, whichever way that it goes, people can be ready for that actual task.”

President Trump has alleged that widespread voter fraud and/or incorrectly cast ballots are the reason for his electoral shortcoming, and has dispatched a team of lawyers to investigate issues from coast to coast.
