Hermit Kingdom Has Enough ICBM’s to Beat American Defenses

How worried do we need to be?

American has long stood atop the proverbial hill of the global community, both in measures of freedom and in their military capability to defend that freedom.  This has been unquestionable for decades, with only Russia once-considered to be a plausible threat to the US.

Now that the Kremlin has exposed their vast ineptitude in Ukraine, there is no real consensus as to whether or not this is still true.

But one thing that we have learned this week, surprisingly, is that North Korea appears to have enough intercontinental ballistic missiles to overpower the nuclear defenses of the United States’ west coast.

North Korea’s military displayed enough intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) to defeat America’s air defenses on the West Coast, according to satellite images of a martial parade on Wednesday.

North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un organized the parade throughout last week, showing off up to 12 individual Hwasong-17 ICBM launchers. The U.S. has just 44 missile interceptors on America’s West Coast, with some stationed in California and others in Alaska, according to Politico.

If the 12 ICBMs carry a payload of four warheads each, they would overwhelm America’s prepared defenses, according to the report.

What level of worry should we be carrying with us in our daily lives?

North Korea has struggled to demonstrate the range capability of its ICBMs, however, through the Hwasong-17s are thought to be capable of reaching the U.S. from the country.

The long history of failed missile tests in North Korea is well understood, as is the totality of the response that Pyongyang will receive from Washington DC should they even think about trying it.
