Homeland Security Chief Warns Portland Mayor: Get It Together or We’re Coming Back

Americans around the nation were gravely concerned when federal authorities began appearing in major cities around the nation, confronting and sometimes arresting people on the streets.

These military-styled officers were snatching protesters and agitators off the streets, tossing them into unmarked rental vehicles, and taking off into the night – all without responding to questions from onlookers and observers as to where the detained were headed.

It was abjectly terrifying, and lawmakers on both sides of the aisle were appalled.  This was precisely the sort of situation that our Constitution is meant to protect us against, and it closely resembles the “martial law” that conspiracy nuts like Alex Jones have been warning about for ages.

These authorities, who hailed from the Department of Homeland Security and Customs & Border Enforcement, were soon vacating places like Portland on account of the backlash.  But now, as the situation there deteriorates, DHS is threatening to reinstate their presence.

Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf has sent a letter to Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler, urging the Democrat to request federal assistance for his city after months of riots.

“I urge you to prioritize public safety and to request federal assistance to restore law and order in Portland,” Wolf wrote in the letter dated Aug. 31. “We are standing by to support Portland. At the same time, President Trump has made it abundantly clear that there will come a point when state and local officials fail to protect its citizens from violence, the federal government will have no choice but to protect our American citizens.”

Portland has seen over three months of nightly violent protests, including three recent killings, as pro-Trump groups and left-leaning protesters have fought in the streets.

The violence in Portland has increased in recent nights, with Mayor Wheeler continuing to refuse help from the federal government.

Wolf’s threats are a new plateau in rhetoric, however, and legal experts agree that the only way in which federal troops can be used to maintain law and order on the streets of a free America is through the use of the Insurrection Act.
