With President Trump and his administration appearing to gear up for an “investigation of the investigators”, nerves in the DC Swamp are at an all time high.
Robert Mueller’s report on Russian interference into the 2016 election has thus far failed to produce any additional arrests or charges in the aftermath of its release. In fact, according to many, the report has raised a number of ethical questions regarding the conduct of the FBI in the run-up to that election as well.
At the center of controversy is former FBI Director James Comey, who was infamous for his kid-glove treatment of Hillary Clinton.
Comey appeared a bit rattled on television today, and is beginning to frame a defense for himself as a probable probe looms.
Comey said on CBS’s “This Morning” the FBI does not spy, adding that the FBI had cause to investigate the Trump campaign and that Republicans would be fine with the investigations if the FBI had Trump been a Democrat.
“The FBI doesn’t spy, the FBI investigates,” said Comey. “We investigated a very serious allegation that Americans might be hooked up with the Russian effort to attack our democracy.”
Americans have concerns over the use of an unverified and unverifiable document known as the Steele Dossier to issue a warrant allowing the FBI to potentially “spy” on the Trump 2016 campaign.
Having occurred under the previous administration, whose preference to Trump challenger Hillary Clinton should not be overlooked, has further irked We The People.
