John Brennan proposes ludicrous new angle in RussiaGate conspiracy theory

The shameful assertion is insulting not only to the intelligence community, but to the nation as a whole.

Just when you thought that you have heard every possible angle of the RussiaGate conspiracy theory, former CIA director John Brennan drops a batty bombshell on the nation.

The prevailing notion among democrats and their “resistance”-centric cabal is that Donald Trump is somehow compromised by the Russian government, and will do their bidding in exchange for their assistance during the 2016 election.  This sounds wild enough on its own, but the left has gone even further, believing that the compromising material that Russian President Vladimir Putin may have on Trump involves his unsanitary  and vile acts with prostitutes from Moscow.

If this sounds a bit like a band, B-level knockoff of a James Bond film, you’d be right.  They even picked “The Russians” as the bad guys – something that invokes a massive dose of nostalgia among millennials and gen x-ers.

Now, after countless weeks of worry and work, the left side of the RussiaGate conspiracy theory has a new addition to the collection of kooky ideas:  That Donald Trump would block the CIA from performing duties pertaining to the cybersecurity of the 2020 election in order to allow Russia to intervene on his behalf.

This absolutely asinine piece of fiction was not spouted by Alex Jones, Jim Mars, or any other online, tin-foil hat wearing talking head.  No, this came from former CIA director John Brennan himself in an interview with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews.

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Do you think he would call the CIA, the agency, and say call off the agents, call off any recruitment of agents so he could protect his friend, the North Korean dictator. Would he actually do that?

JOHN BRENNAN: I wouldn’t put it past him to try to prevent the intelligence agency from understanding what might be happening if he felt that was going to be harmful to his policy or personal interests or objectives. That’s why I’m concerned about the upcoming presidential elections. It’s clear that the Russians interfered to help Mr. Trump in 2016. Is Mr. Trump turning a blind eye because he doesn’t mind if the Russians involve themselves again to try to enhance his prospects for reelection? It’s really quite unnerving to think this president, Mr. Trump, can, in fact, turn off law enforcement and its intelligence capabilities if they pose a threat to him personally.

The assertion is absurd on its face, and portends that the CIA hires bootlicking and doting agents whose duty to the residents at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue would somehow supersede their oath to the Constitution of the United States.

For shame.
