Joint Chiefs of Staff Affirm Biden’s Win, Reiterate Military’s Duty to the Constitution

The statement was a stern one, and sends a clear message to those who would seek to disrupt the inauguration by force.

For the MAGA faithful, it is not yet over.

If you scour the social media landscape in precisely the right way, there are a great many supporters of President Trump who believe that there is still some hope that he’ll remain the President after January 20th, despite the certification of the results of the 2020 election that took place on January 6th.

Some believe that the fabled “storm” of Qanon lore is coming, in which Trump will arrest members of the Deep State just ahead of the Biden inauguration by invoking the insurrection act and using the military to carry out the action.

The military, however, is pushing back against that claim.

In an extraordinary letter Tuesday to the U.S. military, the nation’s top commanders condemned last week’s acts of “sedition and insurrection” at the U.S. Capitol, while acknowledging Joe Biden’s election victory.

The message did not mention President Donald Trump by name, but the Joint Chiefs of Staff, led by U.S. Army Gen. Mark Milley, made it clear that the military intends to stand by the constitutional transfer of power to the next administration.

“As we have done throughout our history, the U.S. military will obey lawful orders from civilian leadership, support civilian authorities to protect lives and property, ensure public safety in accordance with the law, and remain fully committed to protecting and defending the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic,” wrote the nation’s highest military officers.

In the full text of the letter, the Joint Chiefs clearly and specifically state that Joe Biden will be inaugurated.

The statement comes as authorities are warning of further violence and insurrection surrdauiing Joe Biden’s inauguration, which, at this time, is still slated to take place on the steps of the Capitol itself.
