Jussie Smollett team upset at Chicago PD for doing too good a job

The insanity of the Jussie Smollett case continues to unravel before our very eyes, as the disgraced actor’s legal team dropped a bombastic claim this week.

Smollett, one-time supporting actor on the television series Empire, was accused by Chicago police of hoaxing a hate crime against himself in order to drum up public attention, thusly allowing the mid-level TV star to ask for a raise.  Suddenly and mysteriously, however, the charges against the actor were dropped by the prosecutor’s office, leading both Chicago PD and the American people into a rage.

Now, as a special investigation continues into just why Smollett was suddenly let off the hook, attorneys for the hate-hoaxer are again attacking The Windy City’s finest, alleging that they should never have looked at the actor’s accusations as closely as they did.

…the Chicago Sun-Times reports that Smollett’s attorneys have “filed a motion responding to the city’s claim that he should pay the city more than $130,000 to cover police overtime and other costs” by arguing that the “filing of a police report, in and of itself, does not necessitate a sprawling investigation nor does it, as a practical matter, usually result in an investigation as extensive as the one the CPD chose to undertake in this case.”

In other words, what Joocy Smulliet is arguing is that the city suing him for the cost of investigating his fake hate crime is unfair because when he filed the fake police report he never expected the police to put so much time and effort into investigating it.

Just when we thought that we had seen everything in the Smollett case…
