The year 2020 has not been a great one for sports, on account of an ongoing global coronavirus pandemic whose second wave is now beginning within the United States.
It has only been in the last few weeks that American sports have kicked back up in earnest, (and literally), with the return of Major League Soccer’s “MLS is Back” tournament in Orlando, Florida. Just days ago, Major League Baseball retuned as well, and the NHL is still working toward getting back onto ice in the not-so-distant future.
There are two major question marks out there, however, in the cases of the NFL and the NCAA college football seasons…and the latest news out of the National Football League does not look good.
“We need Football! We need sports! We need hope!” Saints quarterback Drew Brees wrote on Twitter. “The NFL’s unwillingness to follow the recommendations of their own medical experts will prevent that. If the NFL doesn’t do their part to keep players healthy there is no football in 2020. It’s that simple. Get it done @NFL.”
Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson said he is concerned because his wife, Ciara, is pregnant.
He wrote: “My wife is pregnant. @NFL Training camp is about to start.. And there’s still No Clear Plan on Player Health & Family Safety. ???? We want to play football but we also want to protect our loved ones. (hashtag)WeWantToPlay.”
And this could get very ugly.
Is Biden's Vaccine Mandate Unconstitutional?
The NFL Players’ Association does have the power to file a grievance with the league itself, which could cause the entire season to be lost on account of the league’s failure to provide a “safe working environment”.
