House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was late to the game when it came to impeaching President Trump, stalling and stonewalling her more progressive compatriots as they were clamoring for their perceived justice.
Now, however, we are fully in it. We are knee deep in impeachment, and there is certainly no turning back. After eventually transmitting the House’s articles of impeachment to the Senate, Donald Trump became only the third President to find himself impeached in the history of this great nation – a fact that Nancy Pelosi would like Trump to wear like a stain for the remainder of his days.
From her recent appearance on an episode of Real Time with Bill Maher:
Pelosi said, “[I]f the president is listening, I would want him to know that he is impeached forever. And he is impeached forever because he used the office of president to try to influence a foreign country for his personal and political benefit. In doing so, he undermined our national security. He was disloyal to his oath of office to protect the Constitution, and he placed in jeopardy the integrity of our election, and that, I mean, really he gave us no choice.”
Of course, while technically true, the plan being foretold by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell would include a swift acquittal of Trump – undoubtedly a result that will be tweeted in perpetuity by the Commander in Chief, likely signaling a victory in the court of public opinion.
He may be the third President to be served with articles of impeachment, technically, but there is little doubt that any of this will matter once he is acquitted.
