Social Media Erupts at News of Convicted Hollywood Sex Offender’s COVID Diagnosis

The Twitterites didn’t hold back on this one.

Americans are growing a sick sense of humor as they self-isolate these days, as evidenced by some of what we see on social media.

From memes about Sasquatch being the “social distancing world champion”, to pictures of apartment floor plans being labeled “weekend wine tour”, there are no shortage of yucks to be had on line this week.  Perhaps our nation is just trying to cope, and perhaps some are taking the entire crisis a little too lightly.  In either case, much of the humor has been lighthearted.

But then, coming to crash the good-natured party, was a wild piece of news out of Hollywood.

Harvey Weinstein has tested positive for the novel coronavirus in prison.

Just days after being transferred to the Wende Correctional Facility from NYC’s Rikers Island, the Oscar winning producer and convicted rapist is now in medical isolation, an Empire State law enforcement official confirms to Deadline.

Under the policy that they “cannot comment on an individual’s medical record,” New York State’s Department of Corrections representatives did not respond to request for direct confirmation. “Our team …has not heard anything like that yet,” said Weinstein PR chief Juda Engelmayer on Sunday. “I can’t tell you what I don’t know,” the producer’s personal rep added.

Moved to Wende on March 18, the just turned 68 years old Weinstein is one of two prisoners at the 961 capacity maximum security facility just east of Buffalo who was put in isolation after testing positive for the coronavirus.

The convicted sex offender with well over 100 known victims was not receiving a whole lot of sympathy online after the announcement.

As we can see, there’s no love lost for the convicted rapist.
