Statue Toppling Turns Violent as ‘Militia’ Member Shoots Protester in New Mexico

America:  We’re better than this, and it’s time to start acting like it.

The social situation in America appears to be devolving at an alarming rate these days, as the amplifying effect of the media has sent a great many of us off the deep end.

Any time that we open up Facebook or Twitter, or we turn on the infotainment onslaught of the cable “news” behemoths, we are shoved violently back into our corners; we are singed once again with the cattle brand.  Team R or Team D – and don’t you forget it.

As we approach a very real cleaving of the American spirit in 2020, the emotional response to this mainstream malarky has been undeniable, and there is some fairly compelling evidence to state that we are spiraling out of control.

A man was shot Monday after gunfire erupted at a demonstration in New Mexico, where protesters attempted to topple a bronze conquistador’s statue outside an Albuquerque museum, authorities said.

The man was taken to a local hospital where he was listed in critical but stable condition, police said.

“The shooting tonight was a tragic, outrageous and unacceptable act of violence and it has no place in our city,” Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller said in a statement.

Witnesses believe that the man who fired his weapon was part of some sort of pseudo-“militia”.

The shooting occurred during a clash between protesters and the New Mexico Civil Guard, a heavily armed civilian group that attempted to protect the controversial sculpture — a monument that features Spanish conquistador Juan de Oñate, according to the Albuquerque Journal.

Gunshots could be heard down the street just moments later, with several people yelling, “Somebody got shot,” according to the Journal. About five shots were fired by a single gunman after protesters started advancing on him, the paper reported.

This is precisely the sort of internal American angst that would have Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping licking their chops, as they watch a nation divide itself over and over again, until such a time as this new axis of evil can fully take advantage of the chaos.

America:  We’re better than this, and it’s time to start acting like it.
