President Trump has unequivocally changed the way that heads of state use social media, weaponing Twitter in a way that no other politician has before.
The Commander in Chief has been able to beat the mainstream media to the punch on several occasions and, when he wasn’t out in front of an accusation or disparaging detail, he has been able to correct and mend the record in real-time.
This has been an infuriating reality for the left-leaning infotainment industry, and has put Trump at odds with Twitter itself on several occasions. This week is no exception, as the President accuses the online platform of “conservative discrimination”.
In a series of tweets, the outgoing president also suggested a law that gives the social media companies a degree of legal immunity against illegal content uploaded by their users—Section 230—should be revoked on grounds of national security.
“Twitter is sending out totally false ‘Trends’ that have absolutely nothing to do with what is really trending in the world,” Trump wrote on Friday.
“They make it up, and only negative ‘stuff’. Same thing will happen to Twitter as is happening to @FoxNews daytime. Also, big Conservative discrimination.”
In a second post doubling down on previous threats against the law, he added: “For purposes of National Security, Section 230 must be immediately terminated!!!”
President Trump’s belief that he was the true winner of the 2020 election forced Twitter to begin flagging tweets from the Commander in Chief, explaining each time that the Associated Press has called the election differently.
