Trump Announces Approval of Coronavirus Treatment Method

Is this the breakthrough that the nation has been waiting for?

The world sits and waits – 6ft apart of course – as we anticipate a breakthrough in the coronavirus crisis in the coming weeks.

Many of us have likely convinced ourselves that everything will be better in 2021, as if some deity will snap their fingers on New Year’s Eve and make the world whole again.

Of course, this is a foolish thing to assume, but we do it to cope with the strange times we live in.  Perhaps some of us have already subconsciously decided that, come hell or high water, 2021 will be “normal”.  And if it isn’t, we’re just going to pretend that it is.

Again, this is a completely irresponsible take on the situation, but we’re all grieving here in one way or another.  The sooner a real, proven treatment arrives, the better.

President Trump today seemed to indicate that a breakthrough has been made.

“This is a powerful therapy that transfuses very, very strong antibodies from the blood of recovered patients to help treat patients battling a current infection,” Trump wrote. “It’s had an incredible rate of success.”

The treatment takes convalescent plasma from blood donated from patients that have recovered from coronavirus.

Under current FDA guidelines, convalescent plasma is regulated as an “investigative product.”

“We broke the logjam over the last week,” Trump said when asked about the difficulty getting the treatment approved for emergency use by the FDA.

The news comes within days of an announcement by Vladimir Putin claiming that Russia had developed an effective coronavirus vaccine.

Putin’s announcement was met with great skepticism from the international medical community.
