Trump Statement on Ghislaine Maxwell Raises Eyebrows and Draws Ire Among Republicans

Maxwell is currently being held without bond in anticipation of the start of her trial in summer of 2021.

While Jeffery Epstein may be dead, the saga surrounding his sordid life is far from over.

At the time of his mysterious suicide in a Manhattan correctional facility some months ago, Epstein stood accused of child sex trafficking, (again), and had been long-linked to a number of very powerful people.  This, along with the strange circumstances of his death, has led to a number of pervasive conspiracy theories popping up online – many of which also involve his right-hand-woman Ghislaine Maxwell.

Maxwell was arrested just weeks ago while attempting to hide out from law enforcement in New Hampshire.  Now, as the alleged “pimp” awaits trial, a comment made in her direction by President Trump is drawing criticism from Democrats and Republicans alike.

Rep. Chip Roy on Wednesday blasted President Donald Trump’s well-wishes for alleged Jeffrey Epstein co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell as “unacceptably obtuse.”

Trump was asked about Maxwell’s case at his Tuesday evening news conference and said “I wish her well, whatever it is.”

The comment quickly sparked outrage on social media and inside the Department of Justice. Roy (R-Texas), among the most conservative members of the GOP, slammed the president’s kid-gloves treatment of a woman charged with grooming young girls into a circle of sexual abuse.

“This is unacceptably obtuse for a woman accused of the most morally depraved of crimes, @realDonaldTrump,” Roy wrote on Twitter. “She needs to be severely punished… and justice must be served for the girls she abused. For ALL involved.”

Roy is largely in support of Donald Trump, at least most of the time, but has feuded with the President previously.
