Twitter Goes on Suspension Spree as Hunter Biden Story Trends

Twitter’s slant is showing.

While it is still very much true that free speech exists here in the United States, the conduits through which we exercise this inalienable right are failing to live up to their own potential, particularly as it relates to their relationship with the US Bill of Rights.

That’s because our most effective tool in exercising the First Amendment are all giant corporations who rely on advertising media to stay afloat.  So, when something begins to trend, either in the algorithm or in real life, they have to weigh the effect of this against the contracts they maintain with their commercial clients.  In several cases, platforms such as Twitter and Facebook have erred on the side of liberal values.

This is, of course, problematic when applied to the First Amendment, and has fomented calls for political equality online.

Twitter hasn’t budged, however, and a NY Post story about Hunter Biden is the latest fulcrum for the platform’s slant.

Twitter locked the account of @TeamTrump, an official Trump campaign account, citing the same policy it used to ban links to the New York Post’s bombshell story on hitherto unrevealed links between Joe Biden and the Ukrainian gas giant Burisma.

Mike Hahn, a social media manager for Team Trump, revealed the censorship in a tweet earlier today.

“Twitter has suspended ⁦ TeamTrump for posting a video calling Joe Biden a liar who has been ripping off our country for years, as it relates to the ⁦@nypost ⁩article” said Hahn. He added the suspension comes “19 days out from the election.”

According to the screen Hahn tweeted, the tweet violates the platform’s rules against “posting private information.”

The news came just hours after the personal account belonging to White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany was similarly suspended for sharing the story.
