Unknown Former Republican Congressman Set to Endorse Joe Biden in 2020
The announcement came via former Ohio Governor John Kasich.
As if the 2020 election couldn’t get any more contentious, it appears as though John Kasich has some wild news to share.
The former Ohio Governor released a cryptic statement this week, ahead of the Democratic National Convention, that had social media users stunned.
Twitter has been buzzing with speculation ever since former Ohio Gov. John Kasich told CNN on Sunday that a “prominent” Republican congressman would declare their support for Joe Biden.
Kasich predicted that the unidentified GOP figure could make the announcement on Monday.
After Justin Amash squashed the rumor that it was him, a number of other names were being thrown into the speculative ring.
By Monday morning, the ensuing speculation led to former House speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, to trend on Twitter along with fellow ex-speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and former Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz.
Kasich, who was one of the final Republicans in the 2016 GOP primary race along with Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, has been a fierce critic of the president and will be speaking at this week’s Democratic convention, which begins Monday evening.
Kasich’s staunch opposition to Donald Trump’s presidency has made him a regular contributor to CNN, and a controversial figure within the Republican Party.
