It is incredibly sad to see the state of political affairs in America today, as our fellow countrymen continue to scratch and claw at one another over a system of government turned sports rivalry.
It’s Team R versus Team D, and every single social, political, or cultural issue has been divided up and assigned to one side or the other. There is no middle ground. No compromise.
Take, for instance, the anger that arose when movie star Vince Vaughn simply shook President Trump’s hand.
The Wedding Crashers actor was sat alongside Trump and first lady Melania Trump in a private box at the National Championship Game in New Orleans.
The video, captured by journalist Timothy Burke, shows Vaughn speaking to the pair and Trump listening intently. Vaughn then stands up and leaves, but not before shaking Trump’s hand and exchanging smiles.
“I’m very sorry to have to share this video with you,” Burke wrote alongside his video. “All of it, every part of it.”
On Twitter, many expressed their dismay at Vaughn’s actions. “Vince Vaughn is one of my favourites,” one tweet read. “I always knew he was Republican but this, so gross. I don’t need a Wedding Crashers sequal [sic] anymore.”
This ugly animosity is simply un-American.
We are a nation who espouses our diversity as a great strength. We are a nation where freedom of opinion reigns supreme, and seeing half the nation seethe at the other half over a politician is disheartening to say the very least.
