Wikipedia Alters Kamala Harris Entry Ahead of Joe Biden VP Announcement

Harris would be a troublesome choice for Biden in this current environment, and her supporters seem eager to sanitize her record ahead of any coming announcement.

Presumptive 2020 Democratic nominee Joe Biden has but one major decision left to make in his campaign, and it’s a doozy:  The former Vice President has yet to choose a running mate of his own, having so far only indicated that he will be choosing a female as his veep.

Unsurprisingly, the top contenders are all former 2020 candidates themselves, induing Senators Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris.  Senator Amy Klobuchar removed herself from consideration last month stating her belief that it was time for a woman of color to be on the ticket.

Harris, a former hard-nosed prosecutor, seems to be one of the odds-on favorites, and some sudden activity on Wikipedia seems to indicate a seriousness about her prospects.

An article in the Intercept last week reported that a Wikipedia editor was scrubbing the page of former Democratic Presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), considered a prominent member of the shortlist to be Joe Biden’s Vice Presidental pick. The piece mentioned changes such as removing a past campaign finance scandal and Harris’ record as a hard-line prosecutor. Changes not mentioned include removals of the alleged role nepotism played in her early political career and significant favorable additions about Harris.

Other Wikipedia editors have begun working to undo the changes made to the Harris page, although many details remain missing. On Twitter, the Wikipedia editor responsible for most removals was identified as Bao Nguyen, a former volunteer organizer for the Harris campaign. Similarly, editors previously created pages for fellow Presidential candidates Pete Buttigieg and Andrew Yang without disclosing their connections to them.

Harris would be a troublesome choice for Biden, however, as her prosecutorial background doesn’t jibe well with the left’s sudden obsession with defending the police.

Furthermore, Harris embarrassed herself badly earlier in the race, lying about “smoking weed” and listening to Tupac Shakur records during her college years, presumably in order to score “cool points” with young, radical liberals.  It took only a few minutes for the internet to fact-check the claim and realize that Tupac had not released any music during the years that Harris was attending school.
